For Edmonton Public Schools Trustee WARD D
I am a community member who made the decision to run very recently, driven by a strong desire to support children with disabilities and ensure they receive the support and inclusion they deserve. My candidacy is rooted in compassion, equity, and service.
I’ve spent over a decade working with the school board, as well as in the university and public healthcare sectors. I also had the unique opportunity to work overseas on board an international cruise ship, where I worked with over 56 nationalities for 10 years. This experience taught me how to work respectfully and effectively with people from all cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives. It strengthened my belief in the power of diversity, inclusion, and mutual respect, which are values I carry with me in everything I do.
With over a decade of experience in both the public school board and healthcare sector, I've had the privilege of working closely with students, families, and frontline professionals who make a real difference in our community. These experiences have strengthened my commitment to equity, inclusion, and strong public education for every child.
I was honoured to be recognized as one of Scheif's Healthcare Heroes, a reflection of my dedication to teamwork, compassion, and service, values that guide me in everything I do. During During the COVID-19 pandemic, I was also recognized as a COVID-19 Super Volunteer for my work with Bayanihan sa Winnipeg, helping distribute masks, sanitizing supplies, and COVID-19 prevention resources to vulnerable communities. I believe in lifting others up, recognizing every individual's contribution, and working together toward shared success.
Over the years, I have volunteered extensively with school councils, youth programs, and community organizations, witnessing firsthand how strong schools can transform lives. I've also seen the importance of having dedicated, caring leadership at the board level, leadership that truly listens and acts in the best interest of students and families.
My commitment is simple: Every child in Edmonton deserves access to excellent education, safe schools, and the resources they need to reach their full potential. As your trustee, I will work tirelessly to ensure our schools have the funding, support, and leadership needed to provide world-class education.
I believe in listening to parents, supporting teachers, and putting students first in every decision. Together, we can build an education system that prepares our children for success in an ever-changing world.
